Confidentiality
1. A matter of principle
• Complete confidentiality is one of Lingoo's fundamental principles. Whether you're a Search Family or a Host Family, we undertake never to disclose your contact details or the personal data you share with us to any third party. Our respect for your private life and peace of mind means that we protect your anonymity completely at all times. It's always left to you to decide when – or if – you want to follow up on a contact request and make your details available to the other person.
2. What data does Lingoo collect and how are they used?
As a general principle, the personal data you share with us are used purely for the purpose for which they have been collected. Our administration department will never share them with any third party whatsoever, whether they are an individual or a commercial entity, one of our subscribers or not.
• Identification details
In order to have a relationship with you, we need to be able to identify you. Our administration department will only use the data you supplied when you filled in the subscription form to communicate with you – and then only if we need to. We formally undertake never to disclose your name, postal or e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, etc. to any third party.
• Other personal data
Of course, our confidentiality rule also applies to any other personal data you might share with us when you write to us or send us an e-mail – when you ask us a question, for example, or need us to help you solve a problem. Lastly, the rule also applies when we're the ones asking you to share your experiences or take part in one of our internal satisfaction surveys.
What personal data does Lingoo share with third parties? None.
3. How does confidentiality on Lingoo work?
• Anonymous offers
All our visitors, Search Family Subscribers, Host Family Subscribers and non-subscribers – everyone, in fact – can see all the offers on the site. But neither the identity nor the personal contact details of the family who has posted the offer are visible to anyone. All of our subscribers can rest assured that no-one can find out their contact details or contact them direct without their agreement and that none of their personal contact details are visible when they post an offer online.
• Making contact: conditions
Anyone who wants to make contact with a family who has posted an offer online first needs to take out a subscription, which means they will have gone through the process of registration, identification and verification. A family who is interested in a particular offer can use Lingoo's secure messaging service to ask to be put in contact with the family who posted the offer.
Our server anonymously redirects any messages sent to you, round the clock.
If you receive a message from a family who is interested in you, it's your choice whether you decide to respond and pass on your contact details. This is the point at which you start a dialogue that may lead to organising a stay. So it's you who chooses whether to share your contact details and other information about yourself with the other person.
Families looking for either an exchange or a paid holiday can be reassured that the people they want to get in touch with have been through an identification and verification procedure as part of the registration process, which includes creating a References File (to find out more about References File see Search Families References File or Host Families References File). There's trust on both sides, because only subscriber members can contact each other.
