Criminal Record File Extract (Host Families)

Host Family Subscribers are recommended to include a criminal records file extract in their References File.

Remember: The Host Family Subscriber References File also includes:

- 2 Statements of Good Character to provide evidence that the family is fit and proper to act as a host. These documents are compulsory. If the subscriber has not provided these documents, a warning appears on their offer to alert families.

- 2 Quality of Welcome Statements to provide evidence of the family’s ability to welcome students as part of a language study holiday – recommended by Lingoo.

How many?

A criminal records file extract for each adult in the home should be included in the Host Family References File.

It is up to the subscriber whether or not they choose to provide these documents, but if they choose not to, they must explain their reasons.

Why is a criminal records file extract needed?

Lingoo recommends that a criminal records file extract is included in the Subscriber’s References File so that families can feel confident about the Host Families they contact.

Where do I get this document from and how do I go about it?

It can be obtained from the relevant authorities in the Host Family Subscriber's country of origin.

Timescales

This is an easy document to get hold of but it can take a long time: up to 6 weeks!

Useful tip!

The words
WARNING! FILE INCOMPLETE! on your account page are there to draw your attention to documents that are still missing from your References File.
